Two Facts

I learned two things this weekend I thought were interesting.

  1. Fraggles legally aren’t Muppets. In 2004, the Jim Henson Company sold the rights to “Muppets” to Disney, but didn’t sell the Fraggles.
  2. There was a pre-euro euro. In 1865, in what was called the Latin Monetary Union, France, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland agreed by treaty to make their silver and gold coins to the same specifications and to accept the others’ similarly made coins. Several other countries joined later, including some in South America, and some others didn’t formally join, but used the specifications anyway. It broke down mostly due to the First World War, though shenanigans and corruption played their parts also. It officially disbanded in 1927.
